Nokian launches digital tire monitoring system

The new Nokian Tyres Intuitu solution makes tapping into data easy and simple, enabling users to get more out of their tires and worry less, according to the tire maker.

This digital tire management solution combines smart tire technology with a mobile application, enabling real-time monitoring of tire temperature and pressure via sensors that are embedded in the tire. No modifications to the vehicle are required. The data provided supports decision-making, enables fleet operators to monitor efficiency, and practice preventive maintenance.

“We have aimed at making the system plug-and-play. You simply buy the tires, install the application, and you are good to go,” commented Toni Silfverberg, head of sales and marketing at Nokian Tyres.

“The application gives drivers peace of mind by keeping them informed about the tire pressure and temperature, helping to prevent tire damage and warning about possible anomalies. Keeping the tires in good condition maintains machinery operations, minimizes downtime and other potential damage-related costs.”

The system will be available in the agricultural and contractor tire markets first, but Nokian aims to extend digitization to its entire commercial tire range. It is offering an extended warranty for mobile app users who register their tires.

In future, the tire maker aims to extend the functionality of the system to cover wear measurement and to enable the system to be integrated with machine operating software. “In the future, there might be a separate tire data section on a tractor or forestry machine screen, providing crucial data for both the operator and the fleet manager.”
