With the aim of doubling tire capacity at its Tennessee-based factory in the USA, Nokian Tyres will invest US$174m in 2023 to expand its Dayton site. The expansion, which has already begun, will include the construction of a new on-site storage warehouse.

The site expansion and warehouse construction align with the tire maker’s originally announced investment which called for the Dayton facility to reach a full capacity of up to four million tires per year; a capacity which Nokian plans to reach in 2024.

Nokian Tyres is installing additional equipment and infrastructure inside the facility to achieve the targeted capacity. This will create 75 jobs, bringing the total number of employees at the Tennessee site to 475.

“As demand for our tires grows in the United States and Canada, our expanded Dayton factory will supply customers with a rising number of safe, sustainable all-season and all-weather products,” said Tommi Heinonen, vice president of sales, Nokian Tyres. “We are happy to see the factory provide more jobs for North American workers and more tires for North American drivers.”

In addition to the factory expansion, Nokian Tyres will also build a warehouse at the Dayton site with the capacity to hold up to 600,000 tires. The warehouse is scheduled to be completed and used for operations in mid-2024.

Nokian currently produces all-season and all-weather tires at the Dayton factory, and following the expansion, it aims to produce light truck tires at the site beginning in 2023.
