After two years of discussions and negotiations, Michelin and IndustriAll Global Union have formed the Michelin Global Works Council.

Florent Menegaux, chief executive officer of the Michelin Group, said, “The Michelin Global Works Council will enable us to take social dialog and change support to the next level, while also improving the rights and working conditions of employees worldwide.”

The impetus to set up this employee representation organization came off the back of the positive results achieved by the Michelin European Works Council.

Its objectives are the following:

To create a new forum for social dialog that represents employees in all of Michelin’s host countries;

To gain a better understanding of the social, environmental and economic trends that impact Michelin worldwide;

To drive an improvement, in all countries, in the social support provided during economic change.

The council will be required to share the group’s strategic objectives and results, in complete transaparency, with all of Michelin’s host countries. It will also contribute to the co-construction of key policies in areas including: support for organizational change; competitiveness; employee welfare; sustainable development; and diversity, particularly the inclusion of employees with disabilities.

The Michelin Global Works Council will be chaired by Remi de Verdilhac, chief administrative officer of Michelin’s headquarters. The council’s 50 members will be designated this month in preparation for the new organization’s first meeting, which is scheduled to take place in Clermont-Ferrand on April 1, 2020.

“Global works councils are a strategic way to include multinational companies in our action plan. The creation of the Michelin Global Works Council is another step forward in the development of the group’s employee relations process,” commented Valter Sanches, general secretary of IndustriAll Global Union.
