The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA) has welcomed revisions to the Tyre Labelling Regulation.

The regulation, which was approved by the European Parliament on Wednesday, May 13, aims to increase consumer awareness on fuel savings, improve safety and decrease noise pollution.

Labeling will have to include the tire’s fuel efficiency, wet grip and external rolling noise.

In future, information on mileage, abrasion, retreaded tires and snow and ice grip will be added to the labels.

The scheme will also apply to heavy-duty vehicles not currently covered by EU labeling requirements.

Labels must be clearly visible to consumers and will be applicable from May 1, 2021.

ETRMA supports the development and sufficient lead-time of all pieces of the revision, particularly the European Product Database for Energy Labelling.

The database is expected to be completed before the final adoption of the proposal and the industry will need to upload information to the database by May 1, 2021.

Fazilet Cinaralp, secretary general of ETRMA, said, “We all want this regulation to succeed in improving the market uptake of those tires performing at the highest safety and environmental standards.”
